This is Kyrut - it is a traditional local treat from Central Asia. They are dried yogurt balls make from horsemilk curd. The historic nomad method was to let the horse milk ferment, curdle and hand rolled into small balls that are laid in the sun to dry & cure. They are an acquired taste - they are very salty, even the ones that are flavored to be sweet, spicy, cheezy or chocolately - all invariably too salty for me.
