When none will give you an opportunity (and it is often when you are not sacred slice of diversity / inclusion pie) you have to make your own.
I wanted to be a travel blogger & social media influencer - to grab some of that easy and banal cash for traveling the world, taking selfies, photo bombing premiers, doing foodie calls and of course shaking my ass.
But - I am a white guy. Nobody wants to see it. Nobody wants to pay for it.
Nobody would hire me - shit, I am betting the resume & pitches never got more than 6 seconds of attention. Certainly never a call back. FML
and then.... Serendipity.
In 2015 - The New York Times committed an epic blunder and merged the countries of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan together into a new country idiom of KYRZBEKISTAN. A country that surely that does not exist - but in an America where far too many cannot even properly identify their own 50 States - it stood for several days before being outed....
At the time, I was traveling in South Korea and had met 4 girls from Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. WE laughed and laughed for many hours at the idiocy of the editors, authors and readership of the paper .... and then
EUREKA
KYRGYZSTAN didn't have a travel writer, a public office of tourism, an ambassador to the world, a social media presence. Three more shots of vodka and we were off to the races. For the next few months, my friends and I spun webs of fiction and fantasy of what life was like in Kyrzbekistan.
It started to get traffic & attention ... and the offers started rolling in.
I now ghost write for hotels I have never stayed in, meals I have never eaten, tours that I have never been on, countries that I have never visited, cars I have never driven and clothing I have never worn.
I am sure all would have been different if I had a set of ripe full tits and thick round ass - but it is what it is, I will never be a Kardashian
If you are planning to come to Kyrzbekistan .... don't - they have a nasty habit of killing tourists for fun and sport if you over-stay your visa - even if only by a moment.
